How a Young Woman’s Rocky Road to Vital Care Finally Corrected Course

Navigating the bumpy terrain of healthcare is burdensome for most. Without health insurance or enough financial resources, it can be nearly impossible, especially if you are injured or have limited mobility. That is why Carrell Clinic Foundation was founded.

One day, Baylor student Gennie M. had a routine rock-climbing session end with a severe leg injury. Then it didn’t heal. Then she couldn’t find additional care and didn’t have insurance. Then the pandemic hit, and surgeries were put on hold.

On crutches, finishing her undergraduate degree and spending over 40 hours a week just trying to find care, Gennie was confronting the impossible.

Enter Carrell Clinic Foundation and her surgeon, board-certified, fellowship-trained orthopaedic specialist Dr. Daniel Cooper. Now, she’s not only back to climbing but also furthering her education.

“Not only was my entire surgery paid for, but all of the care providers went above and beyond during every step of my surgery and recovery process,” said Gennie.

Getting young folks like Gennie the musculoskeletal care, resources, and support they need is the mission of Carrell Clinic Foundation.
