My Comeback Story: Tami D.

I can't say enough good about Dr. Gladnick, the Carrell Clinic and Presbyterian Hospital Dallas. My story is pretty atypical. My hip had been hurting for over a year and at times made it difficult to go from sitting to standing. I thought that it was just weight-bearing arthritis and that if I lost some weight it would help. A fifty-pound weight loss did not help so I went to see Dr. Gladnick. I was down to bone on bone and the surgery was scheduled for January of 2024. One night my hip hurt so badly that I was crying (I got down to sit on the floor and could not get back up). My husband said to call the clinic on Monday and see if they had any cancellations. When I called, I was asked if I wanted to have surgery that Friday or the following Monday. I opted for Monday.
We went in on October 23, 2023, for the surgery. While I was in surgery, my husband passed away in the waiting room. I think the pain meds must have taken some of the shock away and actually helped me get through the next weeks. My kids stepped up and took care of me. The hospital allowed me to stay an additional day so the kids could get things ready, and I could master the stairs. I went home with my son (to a two-story house). Week two one of my daughters came and stayed with me in my home. Ten days after surgery I was driving, walking w/o cane or walker and back at work.
The hip pain is gone. I walk whenever and wherever I want. I'll be buying a bicycle as soon as I find one that I like. I am fully flexible in ways that I haven't been in years. I can sit on the floor and get back up with no issues. I moved from Dallas to Nebraska six months after surgery; packed it all up myself and drove the car up. I've driven to Dallas at least six times since the move and drive to Omaha every two weeks (a 2.5-hour drive). I'm gardening, mowing my lawn, trimming trees and taking care of a house with no issues.
I can't say enough good about the surgery and would strongly encourage anyone with hip pain to seek advice from Dr. Gladnick and go for surgery if it's recommended. Not to give anyone false hope, had it been my right hip, I would not have been driving quite as quickly.
