My Comeback Story: Jenna M.

Physical therapy is equal to surgery

We met with Dr Kitziger Jan 14th. He watched me walk and did some X-rays. You need I knee replacement is what he said to me. My husband and I asked a few questions and then just before we left Dr Kitziger said “physical therapy is equal to surgery” I remember thinking OK never heard that before. Fast forward to March 19th and I get my replacement. I was in recovery when PT came in a said let’s see what you can do. I moved my leg barely and lifted it some but when Tyler said do you want to walk I said let’s go. (Remember PT is equal to the surgery) I walked quite a bit and I never stopped. I asked to be walked (one has to wear a belt and be watched over in the hospital) and I walked and walked and walked. I had Pt in home and she was amazed how far I could bend my knee. Then I was off to out patient PT and they measure my degree of bend. I am 6 weeks in and very near 120degrees of bend. Every PT I see tells me how I am way ahead of where most people are like way way ahead. Why? Because I did my exercises but honestly I walked. I can remember at 2wk follow up I was in the waiting room with several knee replacements and I was the ONLY one walking the halls with my Ted socks on and pushing my walker. Seriously walking helped me more than any drug it was stiff and hard at first but it quickly became easier and easier. If I get up at night I walk and during the day I walk. Get up and walk people you will be so much happier and feel so much better! Just do it you took the time to do the surgery now do the work. Prayers to all who have this done!
