About Dr. Kitziger

Dr. Kurt Kitziger is an orthopaedic surgeon specializing in joint replacements of the knee and hip at Carrell Clinic.

Hurricane Katrina brought Dr. Kitziger to Carrell Clinic in 2005. Son of a well-known orthopaedist in New Orleans, graduate of Jesuit High School, Dr. Kitziger enjoyed a thriving practice specializing in hip and knee replacement in his hometown since 1991.

A Summa Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa graduate from Duke University, Dr. Kitziger earned his medical degree from Louisiana State University Medical Center in New Orleans. At LSUMC, Dr. Kitziger was elected to the AOA Medical Honor Society, received the Lange Outstanding Student Award, and served as editor of the school newspaper.

Dr. Kitziger completed his orthopaedic residency at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio under Dr. Charles Rockwood. Following his residency, Dr. Kitziger was awarded a fellowship in reconstructive hip and knee surgery at the renowned Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania under Drs. Paul Lotke and Marvin Steinberg.

Dr. Kitziger is a board-certified member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. He has been elected to membership in the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons, and the Clinical Orthopaedic Society. He has held clinical appointments at Tulane University Medical Center and LSU Medical Center, and is the author of numerous articles and book chapters. He is an editorial board member of the journal Orthopedics as an expert in the field of hip and knee surgery.

Married with four children, Dr. Kitziger and his family are settling into their new hometown. His interests include cycling, cooking, camping, and of course, Duke basketball. He loves boiled crawfish and trout meuniere, and continues to search the Metroplex for the perfect gumbo.
