Dr. Daniel Worrel Named 2023 NBA Team Physician of the Year
Carrell Clinic is proud to recognize Dr. Daniel Worrel for being named the 2023 NBA Team Physician of the Year by the National Basketball Athletic Trainers Association (NBATA).
The annual honor recognizes a physician for exceptional service and care provided to athletes, commitment to the community, and support of NBATA charitable initiatives. Dr. Worrel was selected for the honor by members of the NBATA.
At the time of the award, Dr. Worrel had served as head team physician for the Dallas Mavericks for seven years. During his tenure, he provided specialized orthopaedic and sports medicine care to Mavericks players as well as visiting professional athletes requiring medical care while in Dallas.
Dr. Worrel is a fellowship-trained, board-certified orthopaedic surgeon specializing in shoulder, elbow and sports medicine care. With more than 20 years of sports medicine experience, his expertise includes advanced arthroscopic and reparative procedures for conditions such as rotator cuff tears, shoulder instability and labral injuries, as well as sports-related elbow injuries.
Throughout his career, Dr. Worrel has cared for athletes at every level—from recreational and competitive athletes to professionals. His sports medicine experience has also included coverage for Southern Methodist University, the PGA's Byron Nelson Classic, the Cotton Bowl Classic and professional rodeo, baseball and hockey.
The 2023 NBA Team Physician of the Year recognition reflects Dr. Worrel's longstanding commitment to providing athletes and active patients with specialized, patient-centered orthopaedic care.
