Local woman Krystal Dallas, 27, recently needed care for a spine problem and received aid from the Carrell Clinic Foundation and treatment by fellowship-trained spine surgeon William A. Robinson, M.D. The working mother of three sought assistance from the foundation, she was seen within a week, and she had an MRI and surgery the same day as her first appointment. The Carrell Clinic Foundation, at 9301 N. Central Expressway, Tower I, Suite 400, offers vital aid to uninsured and underinsured musculoskeletal patients aged 18 and over. To make a donation or seek assistance for you or someone you love, call 214-712-4200 or visit www.carrellclinicfoundation.org to learn more. You can also donate on North Texas Giving Day, Sept. 22, to increase your impact.

Dallas woke up one day with severe pain and eventually experienced numbness in her arms and legs. She could barely walk and could not drive. She went to the emergency room but needed to see an orthopedic surgeon who specializes in the spine to get the answers and relief she needed. Dallas was uninsured but had been healthy.

The Carrell Clinic Foundation paired Dallas with Dr. Robinson of Carrell Clinic, and she was seen in his office the same week she applied for assistance. Dr. Robinson ordered an emergent MRI on her and detected a massive herniated disk. She was in surgery within two hours. Through the expertise of Dr. Robinson as well as the foundation’s partnership with U.S. Anesthesia Partners and United Surgical Partners International, Dallas’ surgery was made possible.

"If it weren’t for [the Carrell Clinic Foundation] and how quickly I was accepted, I do not know where I would be,” said Dallas. “I am very blessed and fortunate to have all the help from this organization and finding all the answers needed and help right away.”

Research from the Carrell Clinic Foundation identifies a robust network of support for young children with musculoskeletal issues. When patients age out of the system, however, many have ongoing musculoskeletal medical needs. That is where the Carrell Clinic Foundation steps in, helping provide navigation, funds and care for uninsured and underinsured musculoskeletal patients 18 and older. The foundation assists this population with orthotics for deformities or paralysis and those having joint replacements due to juvenile arthritis.

“It’s been an honor to help Krystal and work with the Carrell Clinic Foundation, and it was amazing to work with U.S. Anesthesia Partners and United Surgical Partners International, who were so eager to help that we completed the incredible task of getting into surgery in just two hours,” says Dr. Robinson. “I look forward to being able to help even more musculoskeletal patients in their health journeys through the foundation.”
