Dr. W. Hunter Waddell is a fellowship-trained orthopaedic spine surgeon who specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of conditions affecting the cervical, thoracic, and lumbar spine. He provides comprehensive care for a wide range of spinal disorders, including degenerative conditions, spinal trauma, tumors, and complex revision cases. Dr. W. Hunter Waddell is committed to delivering individualized care centered on each patient's goals, lifestyle, and unique needs.
After earning his undergraduate degree at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, Dr. W. Hunter Waddell received his medical degree from LSU Health Sciences Center in New Orleans. He completed an orthopaedic surgery residency at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee, followed by advanced fellowship training in spine surgery at Rothman Orthopaedic Institute in Philadelphia, where he gained extensive experience in both minimally invasive and complex reconstructive spine procedures. In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. W. Hunter Waddell has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and book chapters and has presented his research at national and international medical meetings.
Dr. W. Hunter Waddell believes there is no cookie-cutter approach to spine care. He emphasizes listening carefully to each patient's concerns, performing a comprehensive evaluation, and developing a personalized treatment plan through shared decision-making. His goal is to help patients understand their condition, explore appropriate nonsurgical options whenever possible, and consider surgery only when it offers the best opportunity to restore function and improve quality of life.
Outside of work, Dr. W. Hunter Waddell enjoys spending time outdoors with his wife, twin boys, and their yellow Lab. An avid outdoorsman and former Division I baseball player, he also enjoys running and following college and Major League Baseball.
